Help with an old crochet pattern!?

I have found an old crochet pattern that I want to make but it does not have a glossary to explain what the abbreviations stand for. It is written like this s dc. I am thinking it might mean half double crochet, but I am not sure and really don't have the patience to go the trial and error route. Any help would be appreciated.
